NEW posture and wellbeing self care classes starting soon in Seaford - Jan 2024
This could be all new to you, or maybe you have had an experience of the Alexander Technique before. Either way, an initial consultation together could give you a feel for the way I work so we can see if working together is a good fit. There is never any obligation to book further sessions. I am happy to work with people for a short period, as a one off, or for ongoing or intensive work. I try to approach each client relationship with flexibility to accommodate your individual circumstances.
Some people prefer group work. When I teach groups, I like to keep the capacity of small to ensure there is time to help every participant individually. Updating and fine tuning body awareness goes hand in hand with moving with ease and coordination. Sessions can improve both proprioception and posture by exploring how your body moves as a whole, rather than focusing on parts of your body in isolation. Alexander work often leads to a greater sense of physical ease or comfort and greater body confidence.
It is possible to move with greater or lesser degrees of efficiency. My aim is to teach you how to move in a way which places less strain on your body. Alexander work teaches people how to improve posture and move more effortlessly. As we age we tend to habitually use more effort than necessary in day to day activities. Lessons with me in Seaford teach you to respond to daily activities with good body mechanics.
Resting is a skill we can get better at and sometimes it is hard to get off the treadmill of life. It is also possible to habitually hold on to postural tension and use physical effort even whilst resting. Alexander Technique sessions can help to calm the nervous system and teach you how to rest more constructively. People tend to find these wellbeing sessions relaxing and restorative in their self care focus.
A common reason people are drawn to Alexander Technique is for pain relief. Neck pain, back pain & chronic pain of various sources are frequently reported to me as reasons people want to try this approach. Often people have tried lots of other pain management interventions and are still looking for something to ease their symptoms. People find this work can help them improve their confidence to manage flare ups & pace themselves through the demands of life. It can also help to manage tiredness and promote recovery after physical exertion.
Our bodies can sometimes take a bit of a battering, whether that is due to injury, repetitive strain, a long term condition, such as symptomatic hypermobility, or simply dealing with the pace of today's society... I will teach you to respond in a way which is kinder to your body and takes pressure and strain off of your joints. Moving better tends to feel better as you find more ease moving around daily life. If you are interested in looking after your body and promoting healthy habits, you may well find this work intriguing .
Sometimes people are surprised that there is some brain work involved in this work. How we think about our habitual responses is key in this process of letting go of unhelpful habits. The messages we give our bodies about how we want it to organise and coordinate itself matter so this work involves both mindset and body. As a result this self care approach can have a wide range of physical, psychological and emotional benefits.
"I have tried physio, Feldenkrais, Rolfing, physio, pilates, yoga but out of all of them Alexander technique is the only thing that has made a difference to my posture. I can definitely see improvements. I have had Alexander sessions before from another teacher but Natalie’s sessions were so much better as I could understand what I needed to do this time. I had the sessions via Zoom which I doubted would be successful but they were brilliant."
