I am a qualified Alexander Technique Teacher, who trained at the Brighton Alexander Technique College, a 3 year training course approved by the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT). I have professional indemnity insurance as a teaching member of STAT and have an up to date DBS check. I am also registered with the Complementary Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC); an approved Accredited Register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care.
I came to find the Technique, due to back trouble whilst working as a Psychological Therapist in the National Health Service. At the time I did not know this was related to hypermobility, a common but often unrecognised condition which causes instability of joints, muscular and skeletal pain and fatigue. I found sitting all day in the office an endurance battle each day. Learning the Alexander Technique helped me to function in day to day life with less pain. It also helped me to break a cycle of repeated injury during daily activities and sports and it has enabled me to exercise more efficiently and cope better with life’s demands. Initially I had no idea that the Alexander Technique would become my favourite hobby and that it could also help reduce stress levels. The Technique has also enabled me to adapt well to the course of pregnancy and I found it a calming, empowering and natural approach to childbirth. Alexander Technique teachings became a way of life and such a valuable skill set that I decided to train as an Alexander Technique teacher and leave my job in NHS Wellbeing services so I could share these benefits with other people.
Currently, I offer private sessions at my studio in Seaford and I form part of the teaching team at the Brighton Alexander Technique College in Hove. I also deliver groups to members of SEDS Connective charity which supports people with symptomatic hypermobility.
