During an Alexander Technique lesson a teacher uses gentle touch to guide a pupil through movement and activity.
Alexander Technique aims to help you to improve your coordination, balance and poise. You will learn how to use your postural mechanisms to their best advantage. Lessons will help you to identify postural habits and learn to move more freely with greater ease. During lessons I will introduce you to the fundamental principles of the approach.
Alexander Technique is something which can be learned and this is why Alexander teachers offer 'lessons' to people who want to learn this approach.
Private one to one lessons last 45 minutes and are available from my teaching practice in Seaford, East Sussex.
Please wear comfortable clothing. Part of the lesson is likely to involve lying down on a teaching table and so you may find loose trousers a comfortable option.
We may also look at your habits in movement in other day to day activities, such as sitting, standing and walking.
If you have any specific mobility or postural concerns, extra time is built into the initial meeting for discussing your hopes and needs.
This is very individual and can be tailored to your personal needs. Some people require one lesson, whereas other people are looking for a series.
You are welcome to come for a one off lesson to see if you feel Alexander Technique is for you. Single lessons cost £43 each and discounts are available for courses of lessons. Booking a course of 6 or 10 lessons are options which will provide you with a foundation in the Technique. A course of 24 lessons, which has been found to be effective for treating chronic back pain, is also available.
Similarly to learning other skills, improving postural mechanisms and coordination takes time to practise and apply, in order to see results. Lessons can also be arranged to take place more frequently at the beginning if required to enable you to get immersed into the process more quickly as often pupils find this beneficial. Whereas weekly or less frequent lessons might suit other people better. I can offer a personalised programme so please feel free to contact me to discuss your requirements so we can design a programme which suits your needs.
Some people find it helpful to come to a group class to find out how I work and what the Technique is all about. When I teach groups, I like to keep the capacity of small to ensure there is time to help every participant individually. For the latest group posture self care classes, you can either keep an eye on the What's On page here or sign up to my newsletter to be the first to hear when new dates are released. "Natalie is a very kind gentle practitioner who brought a measured and thoughtful approach to the practices that she taught me, I appreciated this a lot."
Crown Hill, Seaford, BN25 2XJ, United Kingdom
"I really enjoyed the sessions I had with Natalie. They have made me more aware of my posture, especially when walking along with my Guide Dog. I found the semi supine practice very relaxing and I enjoyed the feeling of lengthening through my body. The chair work gave me lots to focus on. I left each session feeling lengthened and with a feeling of lightness and calm."
